Genesis 1:26-27 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. NIV When we read the creation story in Genesis 1, we read of the eternal desire of Father, Son & Spirit to expand their family (Luke 3:38) and create humanity in their own image. So just as The Trinity has three unique expressions of their Oneness, so we all were created with a body, soul and spirit. Though God spoke everything else into existence, He chose to lovingly form the first man by His own hand out of the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7).
No other created thing has the honor that has been bestowed on the human race to carry within our very DNA, the very characteristics and attributes that come from the Most High. Though many people are not yet aware of their divine connection to the Author of Life, and are still living in the darkness of their own thinking (Ephesians 4:17-19), each one is still an image bearer of God by virtue of being His offspring (Acts 17:28). This is why we are cautioned not to curse anyone in James 3:9-10... 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. NIV Whether people have awakened yet to their true identity of being God's offspring or not, we should honor and value God's image that is being reflected by virtue of them being human. For if we curse someone whom God loves, we are striking at the very core of our Father's heart for that person. This doesn't mean we endorse the brokenness that results from living life apart from God, but it does mean us asking God for the grace to love and value what He loves and values. ...And that is every person on this planet! And how do we declare the love of God? By proclaiming the good news that God loved each one of us so much, that He sent His only Son to bring us home! John 3:16-17 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
