The Cross: Where Judgment and Love Meet
If you want to understand judgment, look at the cross. At the cross: sin is exposed, sin is condemned, darkness is defeated, death is destroyed, mercy is poured out, forgiveness is extended, and love triumphs.
The cross is God’s decisive judgment against sin—yet it is not a condemnation of sinners. It shows both how serious evil is and how deep God’s love runs in response to it.
Some may ask: Did the Father judge His own Son when Jesus died on the cross? The answer is absolutely not. Romans 8:3-4 explains that God condemned sin in the flesh, but God never condemned His beloved Son.
At that moment, when Jesus took upon Himself the enormous weight of the world's sin, the Trinity, fully united in heart, destroyed the power of sin and death through the willing sacrifice of the only begotten Son of the Father.
At the cross, we see the culmination of God’s judgment and the unfathomable cost within the Trinity that was required: And that was to put an end to the power of sin, death, and the devil once and for all.
This is love in action.
1 John 4:10 defines the meaning of love by describing it this way… This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. NIV
