Self-Reliance: The Most Socially Acceptable Sin
No one will scold you for being too independent. In fact, you’ll be praised for it. But self-reliance is the very thing Jesus came to dismantle. He said, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing.”
He modeled dependence constantly —on the Father for strength, wisdom, timing, identity, and direction.
Self-reliance is celebrated in culture but cripples in the kingdom. You can't rest when everything depends on you. You can't trust when your identity is based on performance. You can't receive when your hands are full of self-effort.
When growing up goes wrong, we build a life on the myth of independence.
Childlikeness is the joyful dismantling of that myth.
