Vulnerability: The Courage to be Open and Held
If there is one trait that clearly sets a child apart from an adult, it is vulnerability. Children don't hide their needs. They don't mask their emotions. They aren't afraid to appear weak. They don't pretend to have it all together. When they're hurt, they cry. When they're scared, they reach out. When they're lonely, they call for help. When they feel joy, they express it loudly.
But somewhere along the journey into adulthood, vulnerability becomes risky. We learn to defend ourselves. We learn to control impressions. We learn to shield our hearts. We learn to show strength even when we’re falling apart.
Vulnerability is the first thing we lose when our hearts are wounded— and the last thing we learn to trust again. Yet childlikeness can never be restored without vulnerability, because vulnerability is the pathway into love.
Vulnerability is not a sign of weakness. It represents courage. It embodies trust.
It is the stance that enables the Father to meet us where we need Him most.
