If there is one force that consistently crushes childlike innocence in the heart, it is the pressure to perform. Nothing drains the soul more quickly.
Nothing distorts the Father’s image more deeply. And nothing replaces childlike trust with adult striving more effectively than the belief that God’s love must be earned.
Performance turns sons and daughters into servants. Grace restores servants into sons and daughters.
And the recovery of childlikeness always requires one essential revelation: You do not have to perform for the Father’s love. Not in your holiness. Not in your ministry. Not in your obedience. Not in your emotional stability. Not in your theological precision. Not in your consistency. Not in your strength. Not in your ability to “get it right.”
