Reawakening to Awe and Wonder
If childlike wonder has a sparkle, it is a child’s ability to be completely amazed by something that adults find dull.
Astonishment is the natural gasp of a heart that hasn't grown numb. It’s the widening of the eyes, the softening of the soul, and the sudden realization that the world is more enchanted, more sacred, and more beautiful than we remembered.
Children live in this exciting place of discovery. Adults live in familiarity. And familiarity, more than anything else, dulls the heart. Being awakened to wonder is the orientation of a heart open to the goodness of God.
It is the willingness to be surprised, delighted, moved, and humbled by the world our Father created. This is where worship begins.
Returning to the beautiful place of being surprised and overjoyed is one of the most important steps toward childlikeness.
