The Maturity of Dependence: How Jesus Lived
One of the most striking statements in all the Gospels is Jesus saying, 'I can do nothing by Myself.” Not “I choose not to.” Not “I rarely do.” But “nothing.” This isn’t a sign of weakness; it shows perfect sonship.
Jesus is the most mature human ever to walk the earth—and yet He lived in complete dependence on His Father for every word, every healing, every miracle, every decision, every step.
Jesus trusted His Father with: – His timing – His identity – His mission – His safety – His provision – His reputation – His destiny. He never sought to create His own spiritual success. He never aimed to impress others. He never tried to rely on His own strength.
In this way, Jesus was the most childlike person in history. And He wasn’t ashamed of this dependence; He gloried in it.
If Jesus did nothing apart from His Father, how much more should we adopt the same attitude?
