Adoption: The Heart of God Revealed
In Romans 8:15, Paul uses a powerful word to describe this transformation: huiothesia—son-placement, adoption into full rights as heirs.
In the ancient world, adoption wasn’t primarily about bringing a child into a family because of loss or tragedy. It was about granting full family status, conferring legal inheritance rights, sharing authority, and conferring the father’s name.
When Paul says we have been given the Spirit of adoption, he means: The Father has fully integrated us into His family, giving us the same rights, privileges, and acceptance as His own Son.
We are not second-class children. We are not merely tolerated. We are not barely included.
We are completely welcomed into the life Jesus shares with the Father.
