Emotional Honesty is Deeply Biblical
The Scriptures are emotionally raw in ways many adults aren't comfortable with. Just read the Psalms. They are full of lament, longing, joy, rage, confusion, worship, fear, gratitude, and hope. They include questions that sound almost irreverent, pleas that sound desperate, and confessions that are brutally honest.
This is why the Psalms have influenced generations of believers—not because they hide or sanitize emotion, but because they acknowledge and honor it.
In the Psalms, we find:– Joy without restraint– Grief without shame– Anger without apology– Desperation without embarrassment– Wonder without skepticism– Trust without self-consciousness
This is childlike expression in poetic form.
David’s greatness wasn’t his perfect behavior; it was his willingness to lay his entire emotional world before God without holding back. He cried, complained, celebrated, danced, confessed, feared, rejoiced, and questioned—all in the presence of a Father who could handle it.
