God is a Father to the fatherless.
King David knew a thing or two about disappointment with fathers and father figures. His own dad, Jesse, forgot to invite him to a celebration where one of Jesse’s sons was to be anointed king of Israel.
And then there was his father-in-law, King Saul, who spent many years trying to kill David as a result of his own insecurities.
Yet in the midst of being let down by father figures, David had a special insight into the heart of God when he wrote in Psalm 27:10, “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me” (NIV).
He also penned the words in Psalm 68:5-6: A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, (NIV).
